Hoya archboldiana was first discovered in Papua New Guinea on November 3, 1933.
This plant is an epiphyte native to the humid tropical regions of Papua, including the Aru Islands and the Timika forest area of Indonesia. Its scientific name was first published by botanist Cecil Norman in 1937 and is named in honor of Richard Archbold, an American explorer and aviator. This type of hoya has thick, elongated leaves and fragrant, bell-like flowers.
